The story of Family Dental Care doesn't start in a dental office — it starts with a commitment to service that spans three generations.

It began with Dr. Andre Lloyd's paternal grandfather Dr. Hugh Lloyd Sr., a man who devoted his life to caring for his community in the Kingston area in Jamaica. Though he served in a different capacity, his values — compassion, integrity, showing up for the people who count on you — became the foundation of everything the Lloyd family would build. He believed that true service means treating every person with dignity, and that philosophy was passed down through the family like an heirloom.

Dr. Colleen Lloyd founded Family Dental Care in the early 1990s with a simple, radical idea: that a dental practice could feel like family. She chose Northeast DC not because it was easy, but because it was home — and the community needed a provider who would stay, invest, and build genuine relationships. For decades, Dr. Colleen was more than a dentist. She was a counselor, a cheerleader, a friendly face who remembered your kids' names and asked about your mother's health. She built FDC on warmth, trust, and clinical excellence — and patients came from across the DC Metro Area because of it.

Today, her son Dr. Andre Lloyd — known affectionately as "Dr. Dre" — carries that torch forward. He grew up in this dental office. He watched his mother transform anxious patients into confident smilers. He saw firsthand what it means to treat patients like neighbors, not numbers. Now, Dr. Dre combines the relationship-first philosophy his family is known for with modern technology, cosmetic expertise, and a deep commitment to making premium dental care accessible to everyone who walks through the door.
